Child Support

Child support is given based on Pennsylvania child support guidelines. It is very important that the documents submitted when filing are accurately completed. Unfortunately, many filings are submitted with information that does not accurately depict the income of the parties. Our Pennsylvania family law office analyzes income and the tax returns, health insurance premiums, child care costs, as well mortgage obligations, all to ensure that clients receive what they are entitled to receive or ensure that clients do not pay more than they should.

Spousal Support, Alimony and Alimony Pendente Lite

Spousal support and alimony are generally awarded to individuals based on need and eligibility. Our family lawyer analyzes which option for support may be available for clients and explains the process for obtaining such support. In Pennsylvania, there are three options for support:

  • Spousal support: spousal support is awarded to a spouse that is deemed a dependent spouse, due to unemployment, homemaker status, mental illness, or other reason.
  • Alimony Pendente Lite (APL): APL is awarded to a spouse to ensure a level playing field, to be able to litigate and move forward with the divorce process. However, different counties handle APL requests differently.
  • Alimony: Pennsylvania has a set of criteria to determine if an individual should be awarded alimony past the divorce decree. Typically, it is awarded to allow an individual to retrain or rehabilitate in order to regain a sufficient income. It is usually not awarded as a punitive measure.
